Studio Ghibli: Mayhem, Magic & Maelstroms is the 2nd curated programme Philip Brophy produced for the Melbourne International Film Festival. The focus of this programme was the animated works directed by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata - both of whom write/direct their own films for their joint studio company Studio Ghibli, and who also share and are fundamentally engaged in the production of the films along with Toshio Suzuki. This programe was produced just as Princess Mononoke was nearing its premier Japanese release.

In 1998, this programme was then incorporated into the Asian Shadows Film Festival, UCLA, Los Angeles.

In 2000, both programme and programme notes were incorporated into the 23rd New Zealand International Film Festival, Dunedin.

In 2005, both programme and programme notes were incorporated into the 2005 New Zealand International Film Festivals, touring Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin and Christchurch.
