Northern Void is a live audio-visual project mounted by the sound art duo Ph2 (Philip Brophy and Philip Samartzis). Ph2 has worked on a variety of sound/musical presentations, focussing on collaborative, experimental, immersive and improvisational works. Northern Void also involves Philip Brophy directing and making a video to which Ph2 will present a live soundtrack.

Northern Void was developed for presentation at ACMI cinema, utilising the venue's high-end digital projection and Dolby Digital 5.1 playback system. It continues both the immersive surround-sound investigations Ph2 have conducted in their past performances (at ACCA, Storey Hall, Westspace, State Library of Victoria), plus it extends Philip Brophy's audiovisual presentations of live soundtracks (for the Melbourne International Film Festival, Japanime, Adelaide Film Festival, Brisbane Powerhouse & Australian National Gallery).

Northern Void premiered on Saturday February 17th and Sunday February 18th, 2007 @ ACMI, Melbourne. Funding for the project has come from the City of Melbourne and Film Victoria, with support from ACMI and RMIT University. Northern Void is produced by Keely Macarow.

Northern Void was also screened as an event in conjunction with the exhibition AWFULLY WONDERFUL, Performance Space, Sydney, 2011, and exhibited in 2112: IMAGINGING THE FUTURE, RMIT Gallery, Melbourne.

A CD and DVD-R audio of the soundtrack by Ph2 is available through Sound Punch Records.
