Street Fighter II - The Movie
(dr. Gisaburo Sugii 1994)
published in Empire No.66, Sydney, 2007

Being one of the definitive first-wave arcade games based on pugilistic gore and adrenaline user-action, the franchised Street Fighter offshoots probably appeal most to those who enjoyed playing the game. Street Fighter II - The Movie is one of the best due to some exhilarating fight sequences. The story has been moulded around 'brothers' Ryu and Ken who studied martial arts under the same master. Separated and now aimlessly traversing the globe, they are both tracked down by the mega-evil mega-muscled Bison to be brainwashed into terrorists. Global tensions and international politics pepper the story with journalistic relevance, but the stage really comes to life when the fights begin.
